About the Company
HepQuant, LLC is a commercial stage liver diagnostics company with unique, patented and patent‐pending technology for assessing liver function of patients with chronic liver disease. HepQuant technologies have been advanced with the intent to profoundly impact the liver disease landscape – including the research, treatment and patient communities – with diagnostic products that are accurate and minimally invasive. HepQuant is focused on becoming the gold standard for measuring liver health across the full spectrum of disease severity in a cost effective and minimally invasive way to patients across the globe. The HepQuant DuO Test is a blood-based Laboratory developed Test (LDT) that delivers information about liver cell function and portal-systemic shunting, attributes of liver disease that are associated with clinical outcomes. The company has submitted its first PMA for its HepQuant SHUNT test.
About the Role
The Medical Science Liaison (MSL) is a field-based role focused on developing and maintaining professional relationships with key medical experts and decision makers as they relate to HepQuant products. Collaborating compliantly with commercial, business development, and scientific functions, the MSL engages in scientific exchange and enters into collaborative and educational discussions as they relate to medical/clinical, health economics and outcomes research (HEOR) data with health care professionals. These include, but are not limited to, individual physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, researchers, managed markets, medical and pharmacy directors, hospital decision-makers, formulary committees, consultant pharmacists, state Medicaid decision-makers, and others.
Responsibilities
This position reports to the Chief Medical Officer.
- As a medical representative of the company, communicate key information about the company and its mission; provide key scientific and clinical information about HepQuant’s products; be a conduit for communication between HepQuant and the medical community regarding ideas for future research with our products; gather medical insights from the field about the therapeutic area treatment landscape, clinical experience with HepQuant’s products, and appropriate competitive intelligence; and provide corporate value through demonstrated leadership and participation in strategic thinking
- Develop and maintain peer-to-peer collaborations and relationships with key medical experts to deliver meaningful outcomes and improve the manner in which our clinical and scientific customers deliver care to the patients they serve
- Partner closely with HepQuant commercial leaders to jointly support HepQuant product users through medical education presentations, case reviews, discussion of published clinical evidence, and guidance on appropriate clinical use.
- Serve as scientific peer-to-peer resource to external disease experts and internal stakeholders
- Support the medical community with up-to-date medical information, robust disease expertise, clinical data, and product information
- Communicate clinical insights on new data and the relevant disease states to HepQuant Medical Affairs and internal stakeholders to inform strategy, and contribute to the collation, trend analysis, and reporting to internal stakeholders
- Train internal stakeholders on key scientific and medical topics
- Participate in, and lead, field team activities at relevant medical congresses
- Develop an overall strategic territory plan in addition to individual plans for external experts to provide needs-based, value-added support of the medical and scientific community in-line with company goals
- Support interactions with investigators and potential investigators in conjunction with ongoing and planned clinical trials and support the evaluation of Investigator Initiated Research proposals
- Assume a leadership role by assuming responsibility for special projects as they arise related to both Medical and Clinical Affairs activities
Qualifications
Advanced degree in medical/biosciences (i.e., PhD., PharmD., NP, or PA) AND minimum 3 years MSL experience
Skills and experience
- Current MSL experience preferably in hepatology or gastroenterology with proven track record of establishing, maintaining, and enhancing effective and successful collegial relationships with external experts
- Strong broad-based scientific and biotech/ combination product/ medical device knowledge as well as excellent presentation and teaching skills
- Highest level of experience and confidence speaking about drug information/disease state treatment & diagnosis
- Excellent working knowledge of the diagnostics and medical device corporate environment and appreciation for Commercial Operations, including Marketing and Sales strategies
- Excellent working knowledge of relevant regulatory and compliance issues related to the MSL role
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively, as required, in a fast paced, matrixed, team environment consisting of internal and external team members
- Uses teamwork to work cooperatively toward the most effective solutions, championing the best ideas of team members, and assisting where help is needed

Travel: Position will require approximately 50-75% travel via airplane, car, and overnight stays.
